New Reader Alert: “What Is a Safari?” Now Available!
Let’s go on an adventure—without leaving the learning rug.
I’m so excited to introduce the newest addition to our preschool Exploring Africa unit: African Safari!
This nonfiction reader was written for curious little ones who love animals and wide-open spaces—but may not yet know what a safari really is. In so many children’s books, the word “safari” pops up again and again—but often with no explanation. It’s usually a fun backdrop for spotting animals (and yes, I love that!), but I wanted to go a tad bit deeper without going over the heads of younger learners.
So… what is a safari?
In this reader children will explore:
What a safari is and where it happens
The kinds of animals you might see (hello, giraffe crossing!)
What safari guides do
How people go on safari today
And yes—it’s all told in just 2-3 sentences per page, with calm pacing and joyful, respectful language.
Why I Wrote This
I wanted this book to reflect the real purpose and beauty of a safari: not just adventure, but connection. Connection to animals. To land. To quiet observation and respect. Because when children understand something, they care for it—and that’s where deeper learning begins.
Perfect For:
This reader is a part of the Exploring Africa unit, but can be used as an independent resource in other ways. Some possibilities include:
An addition to geography or animal units
A read-aloud for little learners who love maps, nature, or jeeps
A gentle intro to wildlife conservation
Quiet reading time with big, open-ended questions
African Safari is now available for download. Let the adventure begin!
